Whether an individual is struggling with a specific life situation or emotional or mental disorder or simply seeking to experience life more fully and passionately, engaging the assistance of a professional psychotherapist can reap profound results.
What is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy offers a unique opportunity for an individual to consciously focus on increasing his or her sense of well-being with a trained professional who listens, interacts, and guides the therapeutic process in a non-judgmental and comfortable environment. The term “psychotherapy” refers to the process of relieving one’s distress or overcoming one’s disability by engaging specific processes with a trained professional. Psychotherapy integrates spirit or soul (psyche) with care and cure (therapy).
Goals of Psychotherapy
The goal of psychotherapy is to identify life obstacles, examine the emotional patterns that affect thinking and behavior, and explore the neurological blueprints and conditioned responses that has kept the individual from living the life he or she desires.
The conscious mind is an immensely powerful manifestation tool -- what we focus on is what we create. In other words, the answer to all our self-talk is always “yes.” Often the area of our mental focus, or self-talk, is unconscious. Psychotherapy facilitates the unconscious mind to become conscious, enhancing our ability to understand our thinking and feelings and subsequently introducing new choices into our lives. When the individual is fully committed to the therapeutic process, psychotherapy can transform his or her life.
Creating Harmony
In addition to holding a PhD in Clinical Psychology, Dr. Denise Humphrey holds a Master of Music in Piano Performance. Personally, professionally and academically, Dr. Humphrey has dedicated her life to the creation of harmony and approaches the concept of “creating harmony” both scientifically and artistically. To create harmony is to generate peace and rapport. In her psychotherapy practice, Dr. Humphrey offers a space in which peace and rapport can be created between the therapist and client, allowing for the opportunity and counseling necessary for the client to then create harmony in all areas of his or her life.
Dr. Humphrey integrates her artistic sensibility with the science of psychology, effectively engaging individuals and couples and directing them toward their goals.
Dr. Humphrey is particularly adept in working with couples -- married couples, unmarried couples, straight partners, gay partners, and spouses in a gay/straight marriage, professionally identified as “mixed-orientation relationships.”
